Thank you all who participated in our COVID-19 Community Survey! We pooled in 84 responses from April 5th-21st, and while this is certainly not comprehensive, nor do the results adequately reflect the diversity of experiences in Lents -- we wanted to share with you some highlights from our survey here. We found that:
1. Over 85% of people are very concerned about the outbreak and over 95% are taking significant social distancing measures
2. Over half of survey participants are part of at-risk groups
3. General social distancing/staying at home, income loss, and taking care of children at home accounted for the top 3 ways people have been impacted.

4. Paying bills, food insecurity, and houselessness support were among the biggest concerns people were seeing in the community
5. By far, the most helpful support people are receiving during this time are each other. With neighbors/community being at the top with almost 30% and family/friends coming in second. People are relying on, and showing up for, one another to adapt to crisis. A reminder to give thanks for your fellow humans, and to not forget to check in on those who may not be as well-connected during these times.

Other forms of help noted were online platforms for social needs, resources from public schools such as David Douglas High School, food delivery services, and more.
6. Food and gardening is important right now! Not only did over three-quarters of respondents say they wanted to, or plan to, grow food in the coming months, but we had multiple comments about food systems and garden swapping in our open ended questions.

7. As a response to this time, and in general, resource sharing and tool sharing are highly valued.
8. Lastly, over half of respondents say they support a rent/mortgage freeze. With some noting that rent freeze is different from rent forgiveness.
It's clear that during challenging times - what becomes most important are the basics: the people close to us, sharing resources, and food security. Green Lents is committed to continue to help build community where we can, provide opportunities for growing food, and connect people with the resources they need.
The survey will remain open if you'd still like to take it here.
