Get inspired to grow your own food in containers and locations of all kinds during this hands-on demonstration.  Topics covered include appropriate container sizes, soil, fertilizer, plant selection, planting to maximize space and ongoing maintenance. Zenger Farm’s Healthy Eating on a Budget program will provide a light dinner.

Cost: Sliding scale $5-20.

3/31 Intro to Backyard Chicken Keeping (Family Friendly)

At Zenger Farm (11741 SE Foster Rd, Portland)

Saturday, March 31st, 10am-12pm

This workshop will cover the basics of backyard chicken keeping, from raising chicks, shelter, and feed, to municipal regulations and which chicken breed is right for you. The workshop will include a slide show in the farmhouse, a tour of the Zenger Farm hens and their mobile coop, and plenty of time to get all your questions answered. Children are welcome to come along.

Cost: $10-$25 sliding scale. Scholarships and neighbor discounts available.

Taught by Eastside Egg Cooperative Founder and experienced chicken keeper, Craig Clark.
